Print or choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print dialog. Use A4 and turn off browser headers/footers. This does not generate an IRN, QR code or digital signature.

Drafts are saved only when you select Save draft, and remain accessible to anyone using this browser profile. Autofill sends only the entered GSTIN through our server to the GST data provider. Invoice fields, payment details and logos are not submitted by this tool. Avoid saving drafts on shared devices.

A simple path from entry to export

Build the invoice in the order you think.

Start with who is supplying, move to what is supplied, and finish with the amounts and document checks. You can edit the fields at any point; the preview updates as you work.

  1. 01

    Start with the right registration

Enter the supplier’s GSTIN and use Autofill to retrieve available registration details. Repeat for a registered customer, or turn off the registered-customer option for an unregistered buyer. Review the returned legal name and address: an autofill result is a starting point, not approval to issue an invoice.

  2. 02

    Identify where the supply belongs

Choose the supplier’s state and the applicable place of supply. For the ordinary domestic supplies supported here, matching locations calculate central and state or union-territory tax; different locations calculate integrated tax. Do not simply copy the customer’s billing state when the place-of-supply rules point elsewhere.

  3. 03

    Describe each item clearly

Add the goods or services, quantity and unit. Search the HSN/SAC directory for candidate codes, then verify the classification and required number of digits. Enter the tax-exclusive unit price, any agreed line discount and the independently verified GST rate. A code match does not determine the tax rate.

  4. 04

    Review the calculation

The tool calculates the line value, subtracts the percentage discount and applies tax to the resulting taxable value. It shows a separate tax breakdown for each rate. Amounts are rounded at line and tax-component level to two decimals; an optional final rupee adjustment is shown separately.

  5. 05

Finish the document, then keep a copy

Add your logo, payment instructions and agreed terms. Check the preview, confirm the details and open Print / Save PDF. Select A4 and disable browser headers and footers for a clean copy. Add any required authorised signature and complete applicable reporting outside this tool.

Connect identity with the transaction

A GST number identifies the party.
The invoice records the supply.

These are two different checks. An active GST registration does not prove that the items, rate or place of supply on a particular invoice are correct. Review both the registration and the actual transaction.

Check a GST registration

GSTIN → which registration?

Match the supplier and registered customer to the parties named in your documents. A business may have more than one registration.

HSN/SAC → which supply?

Classify each item or service on its own merits. A business’s name or GSTIN is not a substitute for a reviewed classification.

Invoice → which transaction?

Keep the date, unique number, quantities, values and agreed terms aligned with the actual sale and your accounting records.

Follow the numbers

One line item. A transparent calculation.

Illustration only: two units at ₹1,000 each, a 10% line discount and an assumed 18% GST rate. The rate is an example, not a recommendation for any product.

01 / Line value₹2,000

2 units × ₹1,000

02 / Taxable value₹1,800

₹2,000 − ₹200 discount

03 / GST₹324

₹1,800 × 18%

04 / Line total₹2,124

The final review

A polished PDF still needs accurate inputs.

Check the identities

Review names, addresses and GSTINs. Choose the correct registration and distinguish the billing address from a separate delivery address. Do not interpret autofill as certification of the transaction.

Check the amounts

Confirm the quantity, unit, tax-exclusive price, agreed discount, classification and rate. Review mixed-rate lines individually and reconcile the totals with your source records.

Check the issuing requirements

Confirm the invoice number and date, required signature and any e-invoice or e-way bill obligations. This tool does not submit returns, report invoices or determine input tax credit eligibility.

Reference: CBIC invoice particulars. Check current rules and applicable notifications through CBIC’s tax information portal. This tool assists document preparation; it does not provide a binding tax opinion.

Practical answers

Before you make your first invoice.

Is the GST invoice generator free to use?

Yes. You can prepare an invoice, use the available search tools and print it without creating an account. The generator is designed for ordinary domestic, forward-charge taxable supplies by regular registered suppliers. It is not a full accounting or return-filing system.

Why does an invoice need a GST number?

The supplier’s GSTIN identifies the registration issuing the invoice. A registered customer’s GSTIN identifies the intended recipient registration. Check the exact registration rather than choosing a number solely because the business name looks familiar, particularly for businesses operating in multiple states.

Does this produce an official e-invoice?

No. This tool prepares an invoice document. It does not report to an Invoice Registration Portal, create an Invoice Reference Number or generate an IRP-signed QR code. If e-invoicing applies to your transaction, complete that process separately before treating the document as ready for issue.

Are GST rates filled from HSN or SAC codes?

No. The source directory provides codes and descriptions, not a verified rate for every transaction. Enter the rate after checking the applicable notification, effective date and conditions. The same keyword is not enough to resolve exemptions, bundled supplies or other classification questions.

Where is my saved invoice stored?

Save draft stores one invoice in this browser profile, including the logo and any payment details entered. Load draft restores it after confirmation. Saving again replaces the previous saved draft. There is no cloud backup or invoice history; clearing browser data may remove it. Download important copies and avoid saving sensitive details on shared computers.

How do I download a PDF on my phone?

Complete the form and use Print / Save PDF. Choose Save as PDF or the equivalent destination in your device’s print interface; the exact controls depend on the browser and operating system. If your mobile browser does not offer a PDF destination, open the page in a browser or device that does.

Can I use this for composition, exports or reverse charge?

Not in this version. It does not prepare bills of supply, export or SEZ invoices, reverse-charge invoices, or supplies requiring cess. Use an appropriate workflow for those cases rather than forcing them into the domestic tax-invoice format. A zero rate entered here does not establish the correct document type.

Does the tool check invoice-number uniqueness?

It checks the number’s format, but it cannot compare it with invoices in your accounting records. You choose and maintain the numbering series. Confirm that the number has not already been used in the relevant financial year before issuing the invoice.
